Cervical cancer is the 4th most common cancer among women. In 2018, there were about 570,000 new cases of cervical cancer worldwide and 311,000 deaths worldwide. But cervical cancer is considered preventable cancer.

1. What is cervical cancer?

Cervical cancer is a very common malignant pathology in women, the disease is caused by cells in the cervical that begin to grow beyond the control of the body, these cells grow quickly and produce tumors in the cervical , the disease usually develops smoldering for a long time, the cells in the cervical will change abnormally due to HPV virus infection or changes in the vaginal environment.

Some warning signs of cervical cancer:

  • Abnormal vaginal bleeding
  • Pelvic pain
  • Abnormal urination, swelling of the legs
  • Abnormal vaginal translation
  • Abnormal menstrual cycle
  • Back pain, anemia

Sudden loss of menstruation before menopause

Abnormal menstrual cycle may be a sign of cervical cancer

2. HPV gene test for cervical cancer screening

HPV (Human Papillomavirus- the virus that causes human papilloma) is the main cause of cervical cancer. HPV is spread through sexual contact and causes genital warts, cervical gland inflammation, cervical cancer. It usually takes about 5-20 years for persistent HPV infection to progress to cancer. Therefore, the World Health Organization recommends that all women over the age of 30 take an HPV test for early screening for cervical cancer.

There are more than 100 types of HPV, of which more than 40 are associated with genital lesions, divided into 2 important groups:

  • Low-risk HPV type: May cause genital warts or very small cell changes in the cervical, including: type 6, 11, 40, 42, 43, 44, 53, 54, 61, 72, 73 and 81. HPV type 6 and 11 are present in nearly 90% of cases of rooster crests.
  • High-risk HPV type: May cause cervical cancer, including: type 16, 18, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58, 59, 66 and 68. In which HPV type 16 and type 18 are the most dangerous, found in more than 70% of cases of cervical cancer.

Currently, the Laboratory Department, Share99 International Health Hub is performing regular HPV type gene testing on Seegene 's automated system (Korea) which has been CE-IVD certified. This technique is based on the Real-time PCR principle, which has a higher sensitivity, specificity and feasibility than the usual PCR method in detecting HPV infection and genotype, which can simultaneously detect 28 different types including all types in the low-risk and high-risk group.

Share99 International Health Hub currently has a Gynecologic Cancer Screening and Detection Package for female customers over 40 years old, meaning:

  • Check gynecologic function.
  • Perform necessary tests to help detect diseases early: cervical cancer – uterus – ovaries even if there are no symptoms.

When screening for cervical cancer at Share99, customers are given the ThinPrep Pap Test cervical cancer early detection test, which has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) since May 1996. This new method is currently commonly used in the US, Europe. ThinPrep Pap Test has created a turning point for the traditional Pap smear method, through membrane-controlled cell transfer technology, which increases sensitivity and specificity in the detection of precteriteric cells, especially glandular macrons, a type of cancer cell that is difficult to detect. Hpv tests can also be performed to identify women with HPV in high-risk groups that cause cervical cancer.
