How long does otitis fluid retention last?

Fluid retention otitis is common in children between 1 and 3 years of age, characterized by fluid retention behind a non-perforated ear membrane. If not detected and treated, otitis between fluid retention is at risk of developing into immunity from chronic hearing impairment.

1. What is fluid retention otitis?

Stagnant otitis is an inflammation of the middle ear mucosa accompanied by the presence of secretion in the ear canal, fluid stagnant behind a non-punctured ear membrane. Middle ear discharge can be bar, mucus or glue. Based on the duration of the disease can be divided into 3 bodies: the emergency form occurs in a period shorter than three weeks; semi-severe illness lasts from 3 weeks to 3 months; chronic body lasts more than 3 months.

Stagnant otitis is common in children between 1 and 3 years of age. The disease develops silently, with few symptoms, clinical signs are mainly a decrease in hearing. The disease is detected when parents take their child to the doctor due to abnormal signs such as:

  • Children do not turn their heads toward sound or they are slow to respond to language learning and development.
  • For older children, in the classroom they do not hear well, the feeling of heavy ears, discomfort in the ears, abnormal hearing manifestations when listening or spelling.

In addition, fluid otitis media is often detected when the child visits the doctor in the context of an infection of the upper respiratory tract.

In children, hearing loss usually occurs in the ears, while, adults often suffer from one side. The degree of hearing loss varies greatly in different patients. If the hearing loss is 30dB or more in both ears, it will greatly affect language development as well as learning ability. Some rare symptoms of the disease are:

  • Feeling of shifting in the ear
  • There is a change in deafness by head position
  • Dizziness
  • Ear pain: usually only seen during or immediately after the stage of acute otitis

2. Causes of stagnant otitis

Due to structural insysity, atrial fiscitis as well as the inmity of the immune system, the child may have fluid otitis media due to the following causes:

  • Tympaic nozzle obstruction: Can be functional atrial nozzle obstruction, mechanical tympaic nozzle shutdown or both. Tap blockage is common in young children because cartilage in soft children makes opening the proboscis difficult, the muscles of the curtain in the child also work less effectively than adults. When the atrial nozzle is turned off, it will lead to the loss of air in the ear box leading to negative pressure, preventing the drainage from the middle ear causing a capacitor behind the eardrum, the absorbent in this case is usentile.
  • Bacterial, viral inflammation: stagnant otitis media can be a consequence of inflammation of the upper respiratory tract. About 65-78% of patients with stagnant otitis media have respiratory infections on the previous days. 40% of cases of stasis otitis are detected with bacteria, common bacteria are Staphylococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Diphteroides,… Some common pathogenic viruses are influenza virus ,herpes, coxsackie b4, adenovirus,…
  • Inflammation caused by allergies: leads to edema, increased mucous discharge, blockage of the ear proboscis.

3. Treatment of stagnant otitis

Fluid retention otitis if left unsweeiled or ineffectively treated will cause dangerous complications such as shrinkage vesicles, atrial collapse, atrial fibrosis, fluid-fluid otitis media with immeasable green eardrums, chronic otitis media with cholesteatoma,… these are non-recovering chronic diseases that seriously affect the hearing of the person.

The goal of treating otitis between fluid retention is to restore hearing, prevent the progress of chronic diseases and prevent recurrent acute otitis and complications. For the treatment of stagnant otitis ,it is necessary to determine the cause of the disease. The principle of treatment is the combined treatment of the whole body and the place, the previous medical treatment, if failure to transfer to medical treatment.

4. How long does otitis fluid retention last?

Otitis has a lot of different developments. Most often, purulent otitis (non-infectious ear translation) can cure itself for 10-20 days, or after proper treatment, the ability to hear is restored. However, in some cases, despite being treated properly according to the regimen, purulent otitis still recurs. Purulent otitis can be infected causing complications of chronic purulent otitis, perforation of the eardrum, prolonged fluid retention.

Paediatric examination

Take your child to see an Ear Nose and Throat specialist for early treatment

To prevent the risk of otitis media, parents need to keep the child warm, improve their resistance, fully vaccinate, when the child has upper respiratory tract diseases, it is necessary to treat the child definitively, not let the disease last. Take your child to an ear and throat examination periodically to detect and treat otitis in the middle of fluid retention.

The pediatrics department at Share99 International Health Hub is the address to receive and examine the diseases that babies as well as young children are susceptible to: respiratory infections, viral fever, bacterial fever, otitis media, pneumonia in children,…. With modern equipment, ile space, minimize the impact as well as the risk of spreading the disease. Along with that is the dedication from experienced doctors to pediatric patients, making the examination no longer a concern of parents.

To register your child for a visit at Share99 International Health Hub, customers can contact Share99 Health System nationwide or register online HERE.
