At 4 weeks, the baby is almost a month old and both mother and baby have undergon a huge change in a very short period of time. Before you do anything else, self-erm for going this far and acknowledging your success since meeting your child.

1. Development of babies at the 4th week

Now that the baby is slightly older, the doctor will measure the baby according to the growth curve, depending on the week of birth and the weight, the length at that time. This allows the doctor to ensure that the child is still developing accordingly but this development varies in each newborn. If the baby is born prematurely, there will be a different rate of development than a full-month infant. At the age of one month, most babies will gain about 140 to 200 grams per week and grow by about 2.5 cm.

U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention CDC) does not recommend starting monitoring development milestones for children until they are 2 months old because development in the early stages of birth may vary. Some babies will grow a little faster than others, and some may need time to catch up. After the age of 4 weeks, your baby can:

1.1 Body

  • Raise your head for a few minutes
  • Put your hands toward your face or mouth, but it won't be long before they touch your mouth
  • Control the head of movement more, like rotating the neck from side to side
  • Hold your hand tightly
  • Continue strong reflexes

1.2 Brain

  • The child was able to recognize his parents or family members with eyes wide open or showed signs of excitement
  • View objects with a young distance of about 46 cm
  • Listen attentively when your parents speak or sing
  • Start making small sounds or imitating the voices of parents or familiar sounds. Hearing has fully developed at this stage.
  • Look closely at other people's faces

Children begin to make small sounds or imitate their parents' voices or familiar sounds

2. 4-week infant basic care

* Whether you are using cloth diapers or disposable diapers, your baby may begin to get diaper rash over time, especially during the summer months. To help prevent and treat diaper rash:

  • Change your baby's diaper more often: Do it both when feeding at night and as soon as the mother notices that the diapers are wet or dirty during the day.
  • Use diaper anti-rash cream: Mothers can apply anti-rash cream to prevent diaper rash in children, especially if they are prone to rashes or they will go out or when traveling.
  • Do not wear diapers and pants: The best way to prevent and treat diaper rash is to leave the baby without wearing anything. Spread a blanket on the floor and let your baby enjoy the fresh air in hot weather or after bathing.

* If the baby seems uncomfortable, especially after feeding, it is possible that the child has swallowed a lot of air. Try these helpful tips:

  • Burping babies is an indispensable important step that many mothers who raise their children for the first time are still surprised. Compressed airflows during sucking breast milk or bottle milk will be pushed out by belching. As a result, babies feel comfortable, comfortable and prevent vomiting immediately after eating.
  • Formula conversion : Babiesmay need to change the formula several times before finding the right and best milk for their digestive system. The mother can ask the doctor for appropriate advice.
  • Change the bottle: All the bottle and nipples are made differently, so the mother should try some types of bottle and nipples with different airflows to test which one will reduce the air that enters the baby's stomach.

2.1 Nutrition

At the age of four weeks, the mother will know when the child has eaten enough and how the child gained weight. At this time it is best for the child to gain about 14 to 28 grams per day. With breastfeeding, it is difficult to know exactly how much milk the baby is consuming, so instead, monitor the length of each feeding and monitor if the baby emptied the udder well.

For infants who eat formula will eat about 85 to 115ml per feeding during this period and gradually increase that amount by about 30ml per month until they reach 230ml . Remember to let your child eat on her own and never force her to suck up all the bottle.

Week 4 after the baby is born

Track the length of each feeding

Usually, at this age, the baby will still eat about eight to 12 times a day, continue to consume at least six diapers that urinate per day, and also have one to three diapers that go to the fore every day.

If the mother milks the mother for storage, the mother may not know how long breast milk can be stored as it is still safe to use. The guidelines for storing breast milk recommend that breast milk be safely stored according to the following time frames:

  • Four to six hours at room temperature
  • Up to 24 hours in an ice cabinet
  • Five to eight days in the fridge
  • Two weeks in the freezer (if there is a freezer in the refrigerator)
  • Three to four months in the freezer (a separate freezer)
  • Six to 12 months in separate freezer

At this age, the baby may try to reach or hold the bottle but cannot hold the furniture tightly, so parents will have to support the bottle during the baby's feeding. However, the American Academy of Pediatrics advises parents not to do so, as it can pose a safety risk to young children, cause overepping and may increase the risk of dental problems later on. To make breastfeeding more comfortable, use breastfeeding pillows to keep your baby, but never leave the breastfeeding baby alone.

2.2 Sleep

At this age, most babies will not be able to sleep all night. Usually, 4-week-old babies will sleep for 16-18 hours a day, with a few naps during the day and one or two stretches out in the evening.

As long as the baby gains weight well and there are no other medical problems, you can let the little one sleep at any time as long as they want and the mother also has time to rest.

Although sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) remains a concern for many parents of this age, the American Academy of Pediatrics advises parents not to use any home cardi lung monitors, as there is insufficient evidence that the machine can detect this syndrome. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that parents share a room but do not sleep together for at least six months. If you are in the same room as the child, you can detect and intervene if you are not in the same room, parents can use the video camera to monitor the child.
