Currently, contraceptive implantation is considered a modern and effective method to help women feel comfortable in love without worrying about an unexpected pregnancy. There are 2 most commonly used implants: 1-rod/cyst contraceptive rod and 2-rod/cyst contraceptive rod. These are all methods of contraception with an effective time of up to every year.
1. What is a contraceptive implant?
Contraceptive rod implantation is the use of one or several sticks smaller than matches, containing the hormone progesterone to implant into the skin under the arm. Every day that rod secretes certain levels of female hormones into the body, helping to thickens the cervical tube mucus that prevents sperm from entering. On the other hand, the content of progestin also inhibits the process of ovulation, which makes the lining of the uterus not favorable enough to nest fertilized eggs. This method is quite safe, has a contraceptive effect of up to 99.9% effectively similar to female sterilizationmethod , so many women prefer to choose.
2. Classification of contraceptive implants
Currently, there are 2 types of contraceptive implants commonly used on the market such as:
- Implantation of contraceptive rods 3 years: 1-rod/cyst contraceptive rod type (Implanon)
- 4-year contraceptive rod implantation: 2-rod/cystic contraceptive rod (Femplant/ Jadelle)
2.1. Implanon Contraceptive Rods
This is a 3-year contraceptive rod implant with the insertion of a cylindrical rod with bioplastics containing 68mg of Etonogestrel into the body. Implanon is the most used type in our country today because the implant technique is simple and very effective contraceptive, the price is suitable for many subjects.
2.2. Femplant/ Jadelle Contraceptive Rods
This is a 4-year contraceptive rod implant with each rod containing 75mg of Etonogestrel (total dosage 150mg). The duration of contraception is longer, it can be up to 5 years however, so from the fourth year 1 2 follicles will gradually decrease.
The most ideal time to implant a contraceptive rod is within the first 5 days of the menstrual cycle. If you implant a contraceptive stick at other times of the cycle and want the contraceptive effect to be absolute, in that cycle it is recommended to use additional alternative contraceptives (e.g. condoms) if there is sex.
3. General advantages of contraceptive implants
In addition to being highly effective, the method of contraception by implanting a stick under the skin also offers a number of advantages such as:
- Applicable in breastfeeding women (does not affect lactation and quality of breast milk)
- The duration of the effect lasts from 3-5 years.
- After removing the contraceptive rod, the ability to conceive is restored quickly.
- The procedure of implanting and removing the contraceptive rod is quite simple.
- Women after childbirth, some women with >40 years old who have uterine fibroids can also use contraceptive implants safely.
However, similar to daily contraception, implantation of the contraceptive stick can also bring side effects such as: menstrual disorders, nausea, fatigue, menstruation, hypertension, pimples, itching of the rod implant location, weight gain or loss or amality. Usually only 20% of women suffer from these side effects, and usually only after 2-3 months will return to normal.
4. Contrainttrained cases
Although very effective in contraception, contraceptive implants are not recommended for the following cases:
- Women who are pregnant or suspected of being pregnant.
- People with breast cancer or suspected breast cancer, have abnormal lumps in the breast.
- People with severe liver diseases (acute liver or liver tumors, de compensated cirrhosis…)
- People with deep vein thrombosis in the legs or lungs, pulmonary embolism.
- The person suffered unsym cause for vaginal bleeding.
- Patients with lupus erythees, rashes
- Patients are using medications for tuberculosis or anti-kinhal medications.
Therefore, before deciding to perform a 3-year contraceptive implant or a 4-year contraceptive stickimplant, you should consult your doctor and take the necessary steps to avoid affecting your health.
