Verorab Rabies Vaccination Regimen

To prevent rabies infections and fatal complications, it is best to vaccinate according to the rabies vaccination regimen for preventive treatment depending on the condition of the animal, the condition of the wound, the previous history of vaccination of the person.

1. Rabies Vaccination Regimen – Intramuscular Injection

Verorab vaccine is a rabies vaccination vaccine in place for the prevention of rabies in children and adults. Verorab vaccines can be used before or after exposure, for basic or repeat vaccinations.

How many shots of rabies vaccination?

For rabies vaccination, theEssen regimen is used according to the following rules:

  • Subjects without vaccination: 05 verorab injections (0.5ml/dose) on days 0, 3, 7, 14, 28. For level III exposure, combined rabies Immunoglobulin injection is required.
  • Subjects who have had a backup injection in the last 5 years: 02 doses on days 0 and 3.
  • Subjects who have received uneven or more than 5 years of vaccination: 05 injections on days 0,3,7,14,28 and immunoglobulin can be injected.

2. Rabies vaccination regimen – In-skin vaccination

To apply the skin injection regimen against rabies,a dose of 0.1ml of the vaccine should be used.

Subjects without vaccination: adherence to the regimen "2-2-2-0-1-1":

  • Inject 02 injections in the skin into 2 different locations on days 0,3,7.
  • Inject 01 injection in the skin at a location on the 28th (or 30th) and the 90th.

Subjects given a backup injection: 0.1ml emergency injection on days 0 and 3.

  • In-skin injection techniques must be carried out in accordance with the norm, avoiding subcutaneous injections.
  • Use separate needle pumps to avoid infection.

Note: Do not inject in the skin in the following cases:

  • People who are on long-term treatment with immunosuppressive drugs (including corticoids) and Chloroquins should be carefully considered and consulted about verorab injections.
  • People with immune defects.
  • Children or people with severe bites on the head, neck, or visiting too late after injury.

3. Notes when vaccinating

Side effects (if any) with Verorab vaccination

  • Injection site reactions: swelling, redness, itching, pain at the injection site, weakness, false flu symptoms.
  • Body reactions: fatigue, headache, headache, possible fever, tremor, fainting. Patients may have reactions of osteoarthritis pain, muscle pain or disorders of the stomach and intestines (abdominal pain, nausea).
  • In rare cases there may be anaphylactic shock.

Cases to be careful about

  • People who are allergic to neomycin. Avoid injecting the same location or generic vaccination pumps and immunoglobulins.
  • Do not vaccinate the vessels.
  • For pregnant and lactated women: if pre-exposure prophylaxization should be delayed. If post-exposure prophylaxization is given, this subject is not contrained because rabies can progress dangerously.
  • Injections should be postponed for cases where the person has a fever or an urgent illness.

4. Where is rabies vaccination?

The basic thing is that the vaccination of Verorab by intracutaneous injection is allowed only by medical staff who have been trained in the technique of intracutaneous injection to ensure that the vaccine is injected into the skin rather than subcutaneously. Therefore, it is best for patients to go to reputable centers and specialized facilities to carry out rabies vaccination in accordance with the standard regimen.
