Acute genital ulcers: Manifestations and handling

Acute genital ulcers are a rare, non-sexually transmitted disease but are easily confused with sexually transmitted diseases due to similar symptoms.

1. What is acute genital ulcers?

Acute genital ulcers or Lipschutz ulcers are acute pussy ulcers characterized by genital ulcers, which are very painful accompanied by fever and swelling of the lymph nodes. The disease is rare, the pathogenic mechanism is unknown, mainly in young women who have not had sex (virgins). Acute genital ulcers are not sexually transmitted but are easily confused with sexually transmitted diseases.

The disease was first described in 1912 by Benjamin lipschutz through reports of an acute clinical case characterized by the sudden appearance of genital ulcers that cause pain, fever and lymphadenopathy that occur mainly in adolescent and virgin girls.

2. Manifestations of acute genital ulcers

Acute genital ulcers appear as single or shallow ulcers with clear, sharp prominent contours, on top of many gray hypomeas or grayish-brown secreted scales, there may be red circles or edema around. Besides, there may also be 20th and edema yolks. Most often, ulcers occur on the edges of the baby's lips, but they are also found on large lips, perineum and in the lower vagina.

The ulcer "Kissing" is common on the surface opposite the previous lesion. The size of the ulcers is different and usually larger than 1 cm. Many patients may also have signs such as: fever, total body fatigue, mouth ulcers.

3. Treatment of acute genital ulcers

The goal of treatment is to help relieve pain, heal wounds and prevent scarring.

  • Local treatment:
    • On-site cleaning
    • Cleaning lesions: apply moist gauze, vaseline gauze.
    • Using antibiotic creams, the cream has a topetic effect to fight bacterial infections and relieve pain: fucidic acid, 2% lidocain gel or corticoid fat for 7-10 days. Intra-lesion corticoids can also work well.
  • Body treatment:
    • The analgesic is important in the treatment of diseases, it is possible to use the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory analgesic group : paracetamol, acetaminophen….. In case of severe pain, it may be necessary to use a group of painkillers that cause drowsiness.
    • Use of body sugar antibiotics to prevent multiple infections
    • Use of full-body corticoids is in dinhed if the patient does not respond to topical drugs.

In general, the disease has a good dosing if treated well for about 1 week. Ulcers will relieve pain and the appearance of seed organization. According to many reports the ulcer usually heals within 16-21 days, and most of the disease usually does not recur. After the ulcer heals, it is recommended to monitor annually for the detection of later system diseases (Crohn's disease, Behcet's disease).
