Tetanus Anti-Toxins Serum (Vietnam)

The article was consulted professionally by Specialist Doctor II Huynh Thi Diem Thuy – Vaccine Consultant – Pediatrics – Newborn Department, Share99 Central Park International Health Hub.

Tetanus serum is not a vaccine but a medical bio-product in the composition containing antibodies specific to tetanus toxins. SAT serum is used to treat patients with tetanus (when symptomatic) and tetanus prevention in cases of wounds or animal bites.

1. Introduction of the origin of tetanus anti-toxins serum

Refined tetanus anti-toxins serum is a colorless or light yellow solution derived from horse plasma, which, after in immuno-induction, contains tetanus-specific antibodies.

2. Vaccine packaging and manufacturing

Box of 20 tubes, two blisters, each containing a content of 1500 đvqt

3. Intrained and contrainttrained

3.1

  • Prevention of tetanus in case of wounds, bites of animals.
  • Treatment of patients with tetanus (when symptoms of the disease are already available).

3.2 Contrainttrained

  • Cases with a history of allergy to horse-derived athletes. In these cases, it is recommended to use human-derived tetanus serums.
  • Pregnant women.

4. Dosage and how to take it

4.1 Dosage

dosage:

  • Backup after injury:

Necessarily take the Besredka method: Inject 0.1 ml, wait half an hour, inject 0.25 ml, wait 1/2 hour, if not rescinded, inject the remaining dose. The usual dose of HIV in adults and children as a precaution after injury is 1500 đvqt, injected as soon as possible after injury. Double the dose for wounds that are prone to tetanus or delays at the beginning of vaccination or in humans may be too high.

  • Tetanus treatment:

Although the optimal therapeutic dose and effective dose in the treatment of tetanus have not yet been determined, the recommended dose for adults and children is 3000 – 6000 units.

Newborn tetanus: Use a dose of 5000 – 10,000 VND

Children and adults: 50 000 – 100 000 đvqt, subcutaneous injection 1/2 dose and the other half intramuscularly.

4.2 Uses

Intramuscular injection.

5. Caution when using vaccines

  • It is necessary to find out the patient's allergy history, drug readiness and anti-shock measures.
  • Try the drug hypersensitivity reaction before injection.
  • In previous cases, serums from horses have not been used, once the dose has been given.
  • In case of positive hypersensitivity reactions, besredka desensitization method must be used as follows: intramuscularly or subcutaneous dose 0.1 ml, monitored for 30 minutes, if there is no reaction, continue to inject the dose of 0.25 ml for 30 minutes, if no reaction occurs the remaining dose is given.
  • Where necessary, antihistamines can be given before serum injections.
  • Lactation period: there is currently no data on this issue.
  • Overdose when using the vaccine: Inform your doctor about the undesirable effects encountered when using the drug
  • HTKDUV does not affect the immune response to tetanus detoxifying or subsedive tetanus toxins. Active immuno-immunity to prevent tetanus should be carried out simultaneously with passive immunity by HTKDUV; however, the HTKDUV is also not mixed in the same injection pump with tetanus toxins or subseduactive toxins; also not injected into the same site, since the possibility of toxins mediation may occur.
  • Antibodies may affect the immune response to some live viral vaccines (live measles virus vaccines, live mumus virus vaccines, live rubella virus vaccines). Generally, the use of these vaccines should be postponed 3 months after vaccination. If it is necessary to simultaneously inject the HTKDUV and the triad vaccine of measles, mumus, rubella or one of the components of this vaccine, since it is about to come into contact with the disease, then the immunity of the vaccine may be reduced. If absolutely necessary, it is recommended to vaccinate live viruses in a different location, far from the site of vaccination. And if there is no clear serological evidence of a response to live viral vaccines, an additional dose of vaccine should be given 3 months later.
  • Because immunoglobulin-containing products do not present in affecting the immune responses of live polio virus oral vaccines, yellow fever vaccines, or oral typidal vaccines (Ty21a), these vaccines can be used simultaneously or before or with the HTKDUV.

6. Undesirable effects

  • People with allergic conditions, repeated serum users are often at risk of allergic reactions to serum such as urticaria, itching edema, kidney inflammation, severe cases may be stunned, anaphylactic shock.
  • Allergic manifestations may occur immediately after serum use, after a few hours or 7 to 10 days after injection

7. Instructions for use and storage

Storage: At temperatures from +20C to +80C, avoid freezing.

Shelf Life: 24 months from the date of manufacture.

If you have abnormal symptoms, you should be examined and consulted with a specialist.
