Gynecologic uterine fibroids are very common, at any age, from childbirth to menopause or post-menopause. However, recently this pathology is increasingly encountered in young women.

1. What is uterine fibroids?

Uterine fibroids are benign tumors that usually appear in the muscle of the uterus or on the body of the uterus. Uterine fibroids are formed when a smooth muscle cell divides several times, growing into an elastic, solid mass and leading away from the rest of the uterine wall. Fibroids can grow into one mass, even many with very different sizes

There are 3 types of uterine fibroids, including:

  • Fibroids under the bar: Fibroids that grow from the uterus and are directed outwards
  • Fibroids in the wall (interstitial): Fibroids form and develop from within the wall of the uterus. Fibroids in the wall can cause the uterus to enlarge
  • Lower mucosal fibroids: This is the type of tumor that develops in the endocometrial. Fibroids under the mucous membranes can affect the menstrual cycle of the person, potentially causing infertility and miscarriage
